i'm trying to use MS Word 2000 to format an email conversation that
had; but i'm getting nowhere.

the conversation consisted of several back and forth exchanges; an
with each forwarding the text got more screwed-up, containing endles
">" marks, as well as undesired line breaks, which make reading quite
nuisance.

i can use the replace feature to get rid of the ">" signs; but i can'
seem to figure out any way to reformat the document beyond that, yet
feel like there must exist a way to do this.

please help

You're on the right track. If you type in ^l in the find feature an
replace with ^p for paragraph. This will get rid of the line breaks an
replace it with a paragraph mark

i'm not sure exactly what was supposed to happen there; but i got
replacements. the line breaks remained. i think this is because the
weren't recognized as line breaks by Word, because they were the resul
of margins forcing new lines, as opposed to willful formatting as lin
breaks.

below is a sample of the text, as it looks now, which will illustrat
the problem. as you can probably imagine, i don't have time to g
through every line of this document to undo all of these line breaks.
or maybe line brekas is not the right term. see below

"be both accommodated by the available space within the town
limits; and for this reason one must die. You can see the banker'
daughter
in question, watching nervously, fingernails being chewed to nothing,
from the second "

does this look familiar

How is the end of each sentence separated? You can find this by puttin
on show/hide and telling me which character displays after the end o
each sentence. (ie. arrow would mean line break)

I tried the following with the text in your post and it worked. Type i
^p in the "find" and ^s in the "replace".
