How to reference a document without the .htm

Did you ever notice that folders in your computer don't have a file
extension?

It's the same deal. However, with web servers there is one additional
feature. A web server can have a "default file name" that, when a URL
contains only the folder name, returns the file (if it exists) that has that
default file name. Some default file names are "default.htm", "index.htm",
"default.html", "index.html", "default.asp", etc. It is a configuration of
the web server, and can actually be any name the administrator chooses, or
even more than one.
