I had an OS failure and have to reinstall my WinXP as it cannot start at all. However I did not have a backup copy of all my mails, contacts etc in my Outlook (Office XP version). I managed to transplant my harddisk onto another pc which has the same version of OS and Outllok running.
I am attmpting to extract all my inbox, sent items mails as well as contacts from the trnsplanted hardidsk. However I could not locate where are the files (data or pst etc) located in the transplanted h/d.
Everything that were in the old pc (transplanted h/d) including all the programs and its related files are accessible in my current pc- I just could not locate the files needed.
Furthermore I need assistanceon how to extract the data after locating them.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have to search for the specified folders, and be sure that you search
the unshown folders,too.

Hi Andreas,
Thanks for your reply but I could not import the file. I could locate a "Office Data File" file in Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook which seems to be the right one. However Outlook cannot import this file since it is neither .pst or address book etc.... So I am back at square one. Any other suggestions/options....anyone? Thanks.

The default location for PSTs in Outlook XP is the hidden folder named
"C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook"

Look carefully, there are two hidden folders that contain Outlook information.
The one you looked in has everything *but* the PSTs. You want to look in the
"Local Settings" tree.
Furthermore I need assistanceon how to extract the data after locating them.
One you find your old PST(s), copy it to the new disk. Where you put it is up
to you. Outlook can deal with any location.

Open Outlook and click File|Open|Outlook Data File then navigate to your old
PST. When you open it, change the name of the folder set from "Personal
Folders" to something meaningful -- e.g. Main Folders.

Click View|Folder List and you should see two or more folder trees -- the
default set created when you set up Outlook on your new disk and the old one.

Click Tools|E-mail Accounts... then select View or change existing e-mail
accounts. Go to the bottom of the next dialog and select your old PST as the
delivery location.

You can now use the move command (Edit|Move to folder..." to transfer any new
e-mail to your old set and consolidate items in other folders. Once you do
that, right-click on the top level of the unwanted folder set and "Close" it.
