the other day my comp displayed this message:- windows
would not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt \windows\system32\config\system. iv got a print
out of what to do which was to copy the system, software,
sam, security and default settings then delete the corrupt
settings then install the backed up settings. the next
step was to find the system volume information folder and
access the restore {guid}. can anyone tell me where i can
find the system volume information folder if it has a
different heading and the restore {guid}. this is doing my
**** head in. aaaaaaggggggghhhh!!!!!!!

Don't you just run System Restore? Once you've copied the backup registry so
you can boot into Windows you should be able to go to Start->Help and
Support->Pick a task and click on System Restore.

Oh I forgot to add the "System Volume Information" folder is hidden and
should be located in the root directory
