How to recover data off Maxtor SATA drive

Hi

I have a Dell dimension with 250GB SATA drive that failed to boot up
into Windows. The machine still under warranty, Dell replaced hard
drive and have left the old one with me for a week to try and recover
the data.

The drive was still recognised in the BIOS and showed manufacturer name
and capacity.

I purchased a 3.5" HDD External case and it powered up OK. My laptop
is able to read this as a mass storage device, but I cannot see it is
My Computer?

I can see the USB drive in device manager.

Anyone any idea what I can do now?

Any help appreciated!

You might look over the above links and try the USBready.exe tool to see if
the laptop is tiptop.. It's from Intel and am not sure if it works on other
boards, my be worth a try though, nothing to install.. If it doesn't work
just delete the file..
Your call, post your results..
Can you see the Drive in Disk Management..? If so, can you assign a drive
letter..?

I use a small adpater that allows me to connect laptop drives to a standard
IDE cable. Of course you need a desktop to connect it to

I picked this up at CompUSA and it has come in very handy for performing
just such tasks ...
