Diane,
Thanks once again!
I'm still not making much progress. Perhaps I should've pointed out
earlier
that ScanPST ran successfully on my OST file but after that I still do not
see a way to import, extract, or get the data without purchasing a tool
like
PST Walker, which is over $100 (I think). Since this OST file was created
by OL2003, OST2PST fails. Does there exist something like OST2PST for
OL2003 and OL2007 (I assume that we need a version of this for Unicode
data)? For that matter, how similar is this kind of OST file with a PST
file? If the two are similar enough, I imagine that a little programming
can convert from OST to PST.
Otherwise, am I left with nothing other than purchasing PST Walker or
might
there be something less expensive?
By the way, the Exchange public and private stores are corrupt. If I can
repair these, do they contain Contact, Calendar, etc data, or just e-mail?
Thanks very much for your assistance,
David

Exactly. All Outlook items are in the pst or ost.
Assuming your OS supports system restore, open the system restore
application and restore it to a point before the profile was deleted. When
Windows restarts the account will be back and you can move or export the
contents of the ost to a pst. Then either delete the account again or run
restore again to return to the point made today.
If the point is not available any of the tools should work - there is a
free
ost2pst tool (
http://www.slipstick.com/files/ost2pst.exe) that works with
ANSI ost files (Ex2000 and 5.5 I think) otherwise you'll have to buy
something. For single use at home, pst walker should be fine but most of
the
tools to repair damages pst file can do it too. For commercial use, I
like
Stellar's and Datanumen's products

Diane,
Thanks. When you say that all the mailbox data is in the OST file,
Should
I
assume you're including Contacts, Calendar items, Tasks, Notes, as well
as
E-mail items?
The profile was deleted a couple weeks ago but it's as good as having
been
deleted yesterday since there has been very little activity on the
machine
since then. What is the criterion for determining whether the profile
can
be recovered? More important, how would I go about recovering the
profile?
In the worst case, if the profile can't be recovered, which tool should
one
use to best extract the data from the OST file left over from an Exchange
mailbox?
Thanks very much for your assistance with this.

ost and pst are basically the same. All the mailbox data is in the ost,
just as it is in the pst.
Do you still have the exchange profile or very recently deleted it?

Diane,
Thanks for your help. Perhaps I should be more specific. The data that
I
need to recover is not e-mail but Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes.
Are
these recoverable from the OST file?
It's not apparent to me where the two articles you cite apply to
recovery
of
data from OST files. Perhaps I'm missing something, but it looks like
these
articles discuss PST files.
Thanks again,
David
Yes, you can get the data out of it. Do you still have the exchange
profile
or very recently deleted it? if so, it's a matter of moving the stuff to
a
pst. If not, you need a tool - see
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ansi-to-unicode.asp and
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.asp for tools that you
can
use.

Hello
After Exchange Server (in Windows Small Business Server 2003) is no
longer
available, I still have an OST file (created in OL 2003), just under 2
GB
in
size. Can one recover the data from this OST file?
Thanks,
David
