How to re-assign drive letter designations?

Have a floppy - A:, system drive - currently C:, a second H/D (SATA) -
currently E:, and an optical - currently D:. In My Computer, R-clicking on
the H/D's gives a "rename" option, but not so when R-clicking on the optical
drive. Everything is on a separate header. On other systems, the system
drive and second h/d have always defaulted to C & D. This is the first I've
encountered that they didn't.

How do I go about renaming them? I want the second h/d to be D: . I have a
bunch of video projects that I'm swapping over to this computer and the
project files expect to find the video on the D: drive.

Thanks.

You don't mention what version of Windows your using, so i'll assume your
running XP..

Open Control Panel
Open Administrative Tools
Open Computer Management
Click on Disk Management
On the right-hand side in the lower part, you'll see your drives displayed
along with the partitions on each one.
Right click on the partition you want to change and choose 'Change Drive
Letter and Path'

Note: you can change the drive letter of any device/partition EXCEPT the
partition the OS is installed on.

Before you can rename your second HD to D:, you'll have to click on the
device that already has D: assigned, and change that device to a different
letter in order to make D: avalaible for use on the second HD.
