how to put xp onto a new machine

i have just bought a new machine, can I install XP onto my
new machine if I remove XP from my current machine

Depends..
Did the copy of XP come WITH your old machine or was it bought separately?
If bought seperately, was in a nice box or a cellophane wrapped piece of
cardboard backing?

If it is not a RETAIL copy (OEMs are NOT retail), then legally, no - you
need to purchase another copy.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
