How to prevent Word from opening executable files

I noticed that Word will allow a user to execute any file type. All you have
to do is click File, Open...select view all file types, right click the file
to execute and then select "run as" and bingo, the file executes.

From a security perspective, this is a major issue for our company. Is there
any way to limit the file types that can be viewed or designate the directory
that the File Open option can view or disable the Run As option that is
displayed when you right click the file?

Thanks

Are you able to put restrictions like those on Windows Explorer?

If you can -- through Group Policy or otherwise -- then the File > Open
dialog in all Office programs should already have the same restrictions. But
that's a Windows administration issue, not something special for Office.

If you can't (and I don't know the answer, not being a security MVP), then
restricting Office is irrelevant. Try asking in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin or a similar newsgroup.
