How does one prevent a recently used application from
appearing on the Start Menu? (Win XP)

Right click on start and select properties|customize. In the middle window,
change the number of start menu programs to 0.

Hi,

To prevent a program from being displayed in the Most Frequently Used
Programs list:

1. Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\<Program name.exe>

2. Add an empty string value named NoStartPage to the registry key mentioned
above, where <Program name.exe> is the name of the executable file that is
used to start the program.

3. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Anando,

TweakUI adds 'NoStartPage' value to this key/location:
[HKCU\Software\Classes\Applications\APILOAD.EXE]

APILOAD.EXE is an example..

Kelly's tip was referring to HKCR, per-machine setting.

Just noticed and FYI :o)

Hi,

Apart from Kelly's expert advice, there is a simpler way. This can also be
achieved through TweakUI. Under TweakUI, navigate to Taskbar and Start menu start menu.

TweakUI can be downloaded from:

Hi,

I understand that and i was just referring to TweakUI for it simplicity in
use. Mostly as you know, users are intimidated to edit the registry.
