how to prevent a windows xp logon prompt at startup?

Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Advanced tab

Bottom group/panel - self explanatory if you read it.
(I'm on XP Professional... dunno about Home)

Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change the way users logs on or
off -> then tick Use the Welcome Screen.
 
Oppss... well done.. I wasn't thinking.. I thought OP said enable the
prompt, not disable!
