how to place pictures instead of the dots in a chart with X and Y axes

I used excel to draw a simple straight line chart using X
and Y values. I would like to insert a picture in place,
or on top of, each of the points on the line such that
when you look at the line you will see pictures along the
line.

This is similar to when you draw a line showing how humans-
like intellegence increased with time. So, the X will be
time; the y will be a measure of intellegence. Then, once
you get the line, you place a picture of the human-like
individual for each point in time along the straight line.

Thanks.

Assuming you already have your images of the various human-like
creatures (including my old boss, if you go back that far), select the
first and copy it, select the series, then select the first point (two
single clicks), then paste. The selected point takes on the copied
image. Repeat for each additional point and picture.

If you select the whole series, not just a point, every point in the
series will use the pasted image as its marker.

And if you get it working, you can repay me by emailing me the chart and
the images. You should be able to amend my email address. I am teaching
an Excel charting class for some middle school teachers in a few weeks,
and this would be a huge example.

To make all points in the line be a picture in Excel 95, select the
range, then choose "Insert...Picture" and select your picture.

To make each individual data point in one range be a different picture,
you need to select a single data point each, rather than the whole
range.

I don't recall exactly how it's done in Excel 2000, but the procedure is
very similar. As a bonus, in the Bubble Chart type, the pictures are
proportional to bubble size!

You can also place a picture in a 2D or 3D bar chart in XL2000, and you
can choose to make the picture either repeat or stretch in proportion to
the height of the bar. IIRC, the option is in "Format Data
Series...Patterns".
