How to place desktop icon on tool bar...

So I don't have to keep closing everything... I'm
embarrassed because someone told me how last week, I did
it...it worked. I then promptly lost my icon and the
directions. Anyone know how, and my apologies to my
savior of last week...it seemed so simple to do I didn't
think I would forget...but yep, I did...
