How to permanently set "program to launch for this action"?

Whenever I press the SAVE button on my scanner, Vista pops up a window that
asks me to "Select the program to launch for this action". There is no option
to make that the permanent setting for that action. As a result, every time
that I push the SAVE button on the scanner (which is often), I have to
"Select the program to launch for this action" over and over and ...

How do I designate that there is a specific program that I always want to be
run when I press that SAVE key?

You should call the 3rd party software company's support line and ask
them what can be done, if anything.

That is not going to resolve the problem. It is not a problem of amny third
party software vendor. It is a Vista problem. It is not unique to my scanner,
it is true of everything that I attach to the computer.

In XP, I was always asked by the operating system (with any new hardware
action that I specified) whether I wanted that to be the default action to
use whenever this same action was sensed in the future. I cannot see any way
in Vista to set this, and Vista is not offering me the easy option that XP
did.

Maybe, you need to go to Control Panel/Default Programs and set it
there. I don't know, but you can go look. There is also Device Manager
where there in the top node the Computer Name node you can right-click
the node and go to the Device Manager wizard -- maybe you'll get
something there that you're looking for that has the same functionality
that it has on XP.

What type of everything are you attaching to the computer? You're
specifically referring to the imaging acquisition dialog: I take it you're
referring to scanning and photography devices?

You can set the default actions for events in the "Scanners and Cameras"
control panel under the Properties for the device, in the Events tab.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Too bad that Vista does not
offer this option the way that XP did. But at least I now know how to do it.
