How to open Outlook Express

The newsgroup I've been seeking is not available
from my usual newsgroup server (Mozilla). I have used Internet
Explorer occasionally (sorry) but never OE. The OE
home page has very copious branches to go to, but I
didn't see one that would lead me to Outlook Express.
Maybe when I get there I'll fall in love with it, but
for now I'd be happy just to be led to it.

I tried search for OE but it told me I could get OE by
downloading IE....but I already have IE 6.0 and an
icon for it. So please start me there, and thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, Outlook Express is installed by default on Windows
XP, so it should be under Start | All Programs.

If not, you can add it from the Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs
| Add/Remove Windows Components.
Check the box by Outlook Express, hit 'Next' and follow the prompts.

Outlook Express is msimn.exe. MicroSoft Internet Mail and News.

Start | Run | Type: msimn | OK |

There should be a shortcut on the Start Menu.
Start | All Programs |

If not...
Right click the Start button | Properties | Start Menu tab |
Customize button | General tab | Show on Start menu |
Place a check in E-mail | Click the V and select Outlook Express | OK |
Apply | OK

Maybe access was removed in Add or Remove Programs.

Open Add or Remove Programs...
Start | Run | Type: appwiz.cpl | OK |
Add/Remove Windows Components | Scroll down to
Outlook Express and place a check in the box | Next button |
Finish button

I may be misunderstanding what you mean, but here goes.

Mozilla Thunderbird is a Newsgroup _reader_, so is Outlook Express. As such
thery are merely applications or tools which understand news (and email)
transfer protocols. If you're looking for a newsgroup that isn't carried by
the _server_ you connect to, changing the tool you use to download and read
the news groups isn't going to give any better results.

It could be that you are using a browser (in that you talk about both
Mozilla and Internet Explorer) to give web based access to newsgroups. In
this case, it might be that OE would link to a server which gave wider
access than the one which IE or Mozilla know about, but then so would
Thunderbird.

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, Outlook Express is always installed with XP, so
you don't need to go looking for home pages, merely find it from within your
computer.

In my setup (I don't use it OE) access to it can be found as an Icon in
Start/programs where it was originally put on installing XP.

So add another Newsgroup server. (Mozilla is NOT a "newsgroup server" BTW).
I use three different servers in Thinderbird
 
It has only been on your computer since the day you loaded Windows XP. Don't
you know ANYTHING about your computer. Look for it!!!

Or, maybe your mind is just burned out due to bad drugs when you were younger.

effort as posting a snotty remark, you could have tried to be helpful.
Or didn't that occur to your 77 I.Q. brain?
 
Outlook Express can and probably was remove from CPL > Add or Remove
Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components > the eleventh entry down
the list.

No, you're confused here. Mozilla is a program, not a newsgroup
server. It's a program that permits you to read mail on a news
server and send mail to that news server.

I'm using a different program, Outlook Express, to do the same
thing. Outlook Express is set to find this particular newsgroup
(microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics) on the server
msnews.microsoft.com. I personally use four different servers to
get different newsgroups from.

Similarly, you have Mozilla set to get newsgroups on whatever
server you use (usually one provided by your ISP). If you can't
find a particular newsgroup on that server, changing the program
you use won't help you. You need to find and set up your
newsgroup program to use a server that carries the particular
newsgroup.

By the way, some newsgroup-reading programs permit you to use
multiple servers (as does Outlook Express). Whether Mozilla does,
I don't know.

It's easy to find. Just create a shortcut to msimn.exe, which is
name of the executable for Outlook Express. But as I said, that
won't help you with your problem.
 
Did you not post 4-6 months ago about how you had "supposedly" 20 years of
computer experience? Doing what. Looking at them on other peoples desks?

Sort of bearing on this same subject, I'd extend it a bit, to ask why,
since XP 'knows' there are bad sectors, and is really wonderfully
smart, couldn't it just go ahead and fix them?


Personally, I'm a little old-fashioned. It was less than 20
years ago that, when you bought a PC, a hard-disk drive was
an expensive 'optional extra'.... and I finally sprung for one.
It had a capacity of TEN MEGABYTES! Today's ubiquitous drives have
a thousand times as much storage, and more. But I'm awfully nervous
about the actual reliability of these monsters. Statistically, it
doesn't take much of an imperfection to turn into 'bad sectors'.

Looks like you are telling as how you bought a 10 meg hard disk somewhat
less than 20 years ago for your computer(10 meg hard drives were around about
the mid 80's).

Hell man! Most people progress in their knowledge as they move forward.
Looking at the caliber of your posts, and the display of your computer acumen
- you have not moved forward one iota in the last 20 years.
