Sorry I missed your reply! Just found my own thread again by complete accident.
Yes, it is indeed as you said.
Ridiculous!
Thanks for the info though,
Julian
In fact, now I've said thank you I'll just have a quiet rant to myself and
anyone standing by the grille... is this behaviour by design, like so many
other supposedly unifying and helpful UI decisions - or is it just a bug
rushed through to release? Half the problem has got to be that MS didn't
watch XP users using Vista... but what about the betas? Did no one pick this
up? I doubt it - in which case why wasn't it fixed? Ah - same-old,
same-old... priorities? Come on guys, you can fix the really simple things
like this (and a "New Folder" button for explorer windows..) and make a lot
of people a lot happier than they are.
Improved productivity with Vista? More work certainly...
So, Vista's selling like hotcakes... that means that a lot of people are
going to end up with burned fingers.
Whinge, moan, gripe, grumble, mutter, gnash teeth, draw 5-pointed star,
invoke demons, laugh maniacally... Its Mine! MY Computer! Do my bidding
hahahahahahaha

Hello,
the double-click open feature won't work if the Folders panel in the left
side of the folder is expanded.
So, collapse it, and it'll work again.
Yes, it's really tricky!

In XP one used to be able to open a folder/folder shortcut in a new window
by
holding down the Ctrl key while double-clicking.
How does one achieve the same result in Vista [HP] i.e. without creative a
new window and then double clicking...
It's driving me nuts...
TIA
