How to open an Office ap automatically

When I click on a .doc or .xls file in another application (e.g. email), Word
or Excel cannot open. I get error messages. I use Vista and Office with Word
and Excel 7. I have to save the file in a folder, open Word/Excel, then open
the file.
 
Where is the problem? Files can be opened in the applications that are
designed to open them.

Or are you saying something about attachments in email?
 
You might try reregistering the applications. For Word:

Start | Run and type

winword /r

and press Enter.

For Excel, the switch is /regserver.

I tried "winword /r" but this did not help. I have same problem in that I
can open a word doc unless I go into MS Word and then open it from a blank
doc. Otherwise, it says that Windows cannot find link.

The same happens with Excel.

Also, how to get rid of "user account control" - is this really necessary.
