Is there a setting somewhere that allows 2 instances of Word to open
(not just 2 docs within the same instance)? I can do this at home with
Office 2000 running on xp but not at work running Office xp on xp.

I can get two instances of Excel, and I'm pretty sure I have done it
previously on this same machine with Word, which makes me think it's a
setting that may have gotten corrupted.

thanks

Tools | Options | View: Windows in Taskbar. But it's not two instances of
Word in any case, just separate document windows and Taskbar buttons.

You can use the /w switch in the Properties of an icon used to start
Word.

Or, using VBA, you'd use the New keyword.
