how to network XP to 2000

I was wondering if someone could tell me or point me to a web page that
will explain how to network my Windows XP machine with my Windows 2000
machine. I would prefer instructions on how to do it manually rather
than with the wizards as the last time I tried using the wizards they
opened up a bunch of holes when I connected to the internet and I had to
go back and close them back down again. This time though I can't seem
to get even the wizards to work with Windows 2000 when I try to network
my two machines together. I never had any problem with Win98, but XP is
being a bit of a pain for me.
