Hello

I'm trying Vista Business and I Would like to know how to move My Documents
From C Drive o D

Tranks in advance

Assuming that you are using MS Word this is how I do it...
Using Explorer create a folder on your D drive titled My Documents.
In Word:
Click on "Tools", go to "Options" and select the tab marked "file locations"
highlight "Documents" and click modify. Navigate to the folder you created
on the D drive and click OK. You can then use Explorer to navigate to the My
Documents folder on the C drive and copy them to the newly created "My
Documents" on the D drive.

Well this newsgroup is for Vista Mail, but I did a bit of searching, so I'll
xpost it.

It looks like the location is stored here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell
Folders

Under the Name "Personal"

You may be able to change it by changing the Data there, as that seems to
indicate the path.

Why not just right click on My Documents and select properties and then
the "Location" tab?

Start | My Document | Properties | Location | Move

Follow the instructions.

Quote from George Ankner:
If you knew as much as you think you know,
You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

I think that Microsoft erred in the changes that they made to the
"Documents" folder and it's usage. In XP there was the "My Documents" folder
where all or most user data went.
Now we have "C:\Users\" this is the main user data folder, where Contacts,
Documents, Favorites, Music, Pictures and other such files are stored. This
folder can not be moved, however, this is the folder that people think of
when they ask about moving it to a different drive or partition to protect
their data.
The answer usually given is that of moving the location of the, internal to
Users, Documents folder. Unless the op realizes that their other files are
not moved along with Documents, they are going to be in for a rude awakening
when they go to restore from a backup.

I've taken to backing up my entire Users folder to ensure I get everything
and whenever I install a program that saves important data I make sure that
the path is set to somewhere in "Users"

The practice of keeping data on another drive or partition is not as
important as it was with earlier operating systems being that Vista does not
"wipe" the drive, but moves all the old data files out of harms way before
installing itself.
I've done this several times with out any angst, and have been able to just
copy the files back to their prior locations.

Of course all this goes without saying that there is no substitute for a
good backup routine.
