Hi,

I have an XP machine at home. The XP cannot be shut down now. XP hangs
after it shows a message "Windows is shutting down". I tried several
ways to rid the problem a couple of months ago but failed. I have lived
with it since then. But now I need to perform a "System Restore"
action. XP rejects it after rebooting the PC. XP says the Windows
doesn't shut down properly (because I force it by turning it off). Can
someone point me a direction to make my XP to shut down properly?

I have a Dell machine (a genuine XP license). I wonder whether I can
get an XP CD from somewhere to run XP's repair mode. Download it from
Microsoft?

Any help is much appreciated.

Tony

Ps. My XP's "Add-Remove problem" tool shows an empty list of programs
installed. Somehow my registry is corrupted. I am using the following
link to fix this problem.

Right click on task bar and select task manager before shutting down to see
what's running. Some virus detect programs cause this problem. For test
purposes shut down virus programs and see if it will shut down.
