How to make websites compatable with all screens?

A common problem I'm expereincing with using FP is getting sites to look
right on all different screen sizes and resolutions.

Specifically, what happens is that I will create a site in say 800x600 that
appears perfect on most screens, yet on others the text will wrap around
forcing all the following content out of its format. (In instances where
users have small screens/low res, I would have expected an horizontal scroll
bar to materialise that would compensate?)

Is there a simple solution within my non-techie capability? Your advices
please.

Design your pages in fixed width tables (760 px wide)

Make your site using tables, and specify the table/cell widths using %
values, not pixels. That way the table will expand/contract to the user's
screen resolution settings.

Have you seen this?

I'm not promoting this service, in fact, it's free to try. I just used
it myself to see how my pages load on several different operating
systems, and with different brands of browsers.

I just thought this might help you understand how your page will load
on a large amount of browser/OS combinations - for free. Like I did.
