I want to place a text water mark in the background of powerpoint slide. I
want to be able to align it as I want and also to fill the background of the
entire slide with repeats of the same text

What Glenna said.
To add on, you can insert the watermark as a WordArt (Click Insert > Picture
WordArt) on the slide master. Then, right click on the word art, save it as
a picture.
Now, click Format > Background.
Click on the dropdown menu, select fill effects.
Click on texture tab > Other Texture.
Look for the word art you have saved.
Click Insert > Ok > Apply to all.
Now this will allow the watermark to fill the entire slide with repeats.

Is it possible to bring the watermark (of course with some transparency) to the front?

I tried several possiblities, but the water mark is always in the back.

Thanks in advance for the help.
