I am using access for first time. Trying to create labels following HELP
window and label design. All is fine except for Name and Surname fields
which i want on one line. I get error

Do i need to combine name and surname into one field? or wot else?

In this case, Name is not a good choice for a field name. The expression
=[Name] & " " & [Surname]
will return the report name followed by the Surname ie:
Report1 Smith

Do yourself a big favor and never name anything name.

Hi thanks for your reply. Rick
Ill explain I have a new database table for a club i run and went into
reports - (new) and set up for address labels using label design (i think).
When i previewed the labels set up the addresses it was fine but i have name
and surname in a seperate field but on the same line in label design and that
showed errornot names. If i just used surname that was fine and so it is
summat to do with having 2 fields on 1 line.

If your unbound ?? text box idea will stop that how do i type it in and on
which table.
Maybe i ought to put name and surname in one field after all!! Thanks for
your reply I am 54 deaf and MD so this is fun for me but new i learnt a bit
8 yrs ago and only now have access at home so i am teaching myself.

First, do not put name and surname in one field in your table.

Second, change the name of your "Name" field as Duane Suggested. Make it
"FirstName".

To add an unbound text box, open your label in design-view.
Delete the current name fields from your design.
In the "toolbox" you will see several types of controls. One of the first
fiew controls is called an "unbound text box".
Clienk it and add one to your label design. In that field (while in
design-view) type the string I gave you befoew including the "=" sign.

Then run your report.
