In PowerPoint, I would like to set a hyperlink so that I click on it, it
takes me where I want to go, then if I go back to the hyperlink slide, it
will be a different color so I know I activated it and won't re-activate it.
Should I use an action button instead, and if so, how do I do it with an
action button?

DocJohn,
Is the hyperlink on a shape instead of on the text? Also, which version of
PPT are you using? This can be done fairly easily using triggered emphasis
animations in PPT 2002 and later. If you are using an earlier version, let
us know.

You can use either, really. Whichever is most comfortable for you and looks
like you want will work just fine, Doc.

Hyperlinks or action settings applied directly to text should change color
automatically. (They'll change to the color labeled "accent and followed
hyperlinks" in the slide color scheme.) Hyperlinks or action settings
applied to a text box won't change color.

To create an action setting, right-click the text or the box and choose
Action Setting. Select Hyperlink To and use the drop-down to determine what
you're linking to.

You could also use a trigger emphasis animation, depending what version of
PPT you're using.

Starting in PPT 2002, a new way to do animation was supplied. Animations are
able to be started in one of four ways: On Click, With Previous, After
Previous, or Triggered. Triggered animations are started by a click of an
object on the screen. In your case, clicking the hyperlink button would
trigger an "emphasis" animation to change the color of the button graphic.

need more information and explanation.

If there is text on a shape, and I have put the hyperlink on the shape, like
a square or cube, how do I have the shape change color after the hyperlink
has taken me to another slide and I then return to the slide with the first
hyperlink?

DocJohn,
I wrote an article for LockerGnome detailing the process. Check it out here:

If you still have questions, let me know.

format > slide design > color schemes > edit color schemes > custom tab >
"accent and hyperlink" is the colour of the hyperlink before you click it >
"accent and followed hyperlinK" is the colour after you click it.

I know this response is several years late, but the other answers seemed
convoluted.
