How to make an open window keep it's content?

Say you have four windows open. three you're done with, one you want
to keep open on the spot you left it.

You open another window, (or two or three) and minimize the one you
want to keep. You work in the others. You minimize them and go to OE
for mail or a newsgroup. You click on a link in a message.

As if Bill Gates were the reincarnation of Murphy, the content behind
the link pops up in the window you want to maintain in its present
condition, while they ones you don't care about sit quietly on your
taskbar.

Anyone know how to keep this window safe from tampering? I used to
think it would reuse the last window minimized, but nope, that's not
the case. And I do have the option selected to open links in a new
window, which only works if the link has the new window instruction in
it.

THANKS in advance,

Mike

Clone the window you want to keep with Ctrl-N.
If it won't clone that proves that it is a special named window
so if another link loads in it there is nothing you can do, it wants
to load in that window and you can't save the previous contents
in another window.

Another technique you can use to avoid the problem once you
are aware that the other link wants to load there is try to launch
the other link in its own window (e.g. right-click Open in New Window).

Thanks, Robert. I'll give it a try.

Also, you can change the setting in IE.

In Internet Options -> Advanced -> Browsing: Uncheck the
box for "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts"

This will cause IE to open a new window when you click on
a link in Outlook or Outlook Express and not disrupt any
current windows.

Hope this helps.
