How to make a MPEG1 format file?

I have VCDEasy and want to make a Video CD but VCDEasy will only accept a
movie file of type MPEG1. I have only been able to save a Windows Media Video
format File WMV which VCDEasy does not recognize.

Is there a way to make a MPEG1 movie from MovieMaker? Do I need other
software to make the conversion?

What you need is a dv-avi file not mpeg1. Mpeg1 is the vcd file that
vcdeasy will make.

Graham, thats not exactly correct. VCDEasy is mpeg1/2 authoring software. It
works with mpeg files. It does not encode to mpeg format. (except for still
pictures).

However I read that in future it would support encoding too... So your
advice would become true in future... For the time being TMPGenc is the
answer.

Technically speaking, Graham was correct. VCDeasy will convert an
mpeg1 file to the dat format, which is an actual "VCD file." And
VCDeasy does not only author a VCD, it burns it too. I use VCDeasy
exclusively for my VCDs because they play in every DVD player I've
thrown at them.

But yes, TMPGenc is the best (and free) choice for converting an AVI
file to an mpeg1.
