I installed the rdp client from Microsoft on a client W2k PC. I was able to
connect from a wk2 power user to an XP Pro PC. the ID used on the XP Pro
was an admin. account. therefore, the XP ID has full access to everything,
including shutdown ...etc.

As a matter of fact with that same ID on the same XP Pro, I can remote
desktop into it from another XP Pro and still be able to logoff or shutdown
or restart.

From the W2k PC, I could do none of that except to disconnect.

Help is much appreciated

When I said I could not log off, shutdown, restart, I mean I can execute the
appropriate command from command prompt, the command will finish as if
nothing wrong except none of the desired effect. of log off, shutdown,...

When you opened Command Prompt, did you use the following commands?
"shutdown -r" to restar
"shutdown -s" to shutdown
To log off, while using the remote machine, Start > Log Off
Anyway, please provide more information
