how to list machines EVER connected to lan, not just currently connected.

I have used net view /domain: to view the machines on my lan but I need
to gat a list of machines that have connected to my lan whether they are
currently connected or not. I looked at the wins records and that is a
bigger list with some expired machines so it's closer to what I want but I
would imagine that if a machine from someones home hooks up to the domain
lan the wins records may not reflect that.

Is there a utility I can use to either view a list from the DC's or even
capture the connections in realtime? I'm not trying to catch a thief or
anything like that,( but I'll be that would be another good reason for a
utility like this) I just need to see how many machines are in my net for an
audit. I like GFI Languard but I would prefer something not as expensive for
40+ machines.

any ideas?

You would need to start a log, that will take care of any future
connections. Past ones you are out of luck.
