You could configure the Windows Firewall to only accept connections to the
file and print sharing exception from the IP address of the specific
computer if you are using SP2. Note however that while that would work it
would be possible for a user to configure their computer with the allowed IP
address in an attempt to access the share. Ipsec can be used to make sure
computer authentication occurs if the computer with the share has an require
ipsec policy and you could configure computer authentication to be either
pre shared key or certificate with certificate by far being the most secure
though if you have no Certificate Authority difficult to do. The problem
with PSK is that the PSK is stored in clear text in the registry of the
computer which is susceptible to being found by another user unless
computers involved are physically secured and other users would not have
access to the client computer via file and print sharing. Remote Desktop,
etc. Ipsec can be configured in Local Security Policy for XP Pro computers
and via the command line for XP Home computers. --- Steve
