Hello
My computer showed a blue screen for a second and restarted. An event was
not written to the system log. How to know what was the error? How to
prevent this error. I was exploring an UDF CD when the blue screen appeared.

How to prevent this error. I was exploring an UDF CD when the blue
screen appeared.

Simple - Start > Right click my computer > Advanced tab > Click the settings
button under Start up and recovery > Uncheck 'always restart...'.

Sorry, but I will not email you - for the simple reason my email address is
private and known to only a few close friends.

Greetings --

Have you tried to reboot into Safe Mode?

To get started troubleshooting the cause of your problems, we'll
need to learn what specific errors are occurring and being recorded.

To get the error message from the blue screen (a.k.a. the BSOD --
Blue Screen of Death), you'll need to turn off WinXP's automatic
reboot "feature:" Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced >
Startup and Recovery > Uncheck "Automatically restart." The next time
your PC crashes, you'll be left with a blue screen full of memory
addresses and other seeming gibberish. The top 2 or 3 lines of this
screen will contain information that can help solve your problem.
Carefully write down these lines and post the exact text back here.
Hopefully, one of us will be able to provide some insight.

Additionally, you should check your Event Logs to see if they can
shed any light on the matter, To do so, Right-click My Computer >
Manage > Event Viewer > System and Application. Record the specifics
of any red-flagged error messages and post the exact text back here.
Again, hopefully, one of us will be able to provide some insight.

I know why my computer restarted and how to prevent restarting. Why wasn't
the error written to the system log? How to know what was the error?

I can reboot into Normal Mode. There isn't any red-flagged error message in
the Event Logs for the error time.

Thanks!

Event Viewer is an application. It is possible for an error to force a
restart before that application can write the error info. Disabling the
instant restart, forces the blue screen to appear. If this a repeatable
error, this strategy helps in getting error info necessary for
troubleshooting.

If it was a fluke error, there is nothing you can do to recapture the error
at this point in time. Turn off the autorestart. Keep your fingers crossed
it doesn't reappear. If it does, you're setup for the blue screen to stick
around.
