Just a minor annoyance - but my WinXP Home produces a pop-up balloon each
time I log into my ISP, telling me that I'm connected. The balloon stays
around for ten or fifteen seconds and disappears. Is there simple way to
prevent it?

Hi Paul,

You need to disable XP Balloon tips:

1. Click on Start
2. Choose Run
3. Type in "regedit"
4. Click Okay
Follow this path to The Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Create a new DWORD value, name it EnableBalloonTips, and set it equal to 0.
If EnableBalloonTips is already there and equal to 1, set it equal to 0.
Quit the registry editor, log off, and log back on.

Remove the BalloonTips key altogether. The attached .reg file should help.

I followed the steps, reviewed the registry, have rebooted several times -
The balloon is still coming up.
