Since two months... I have a new CD drive L: in Windows explorer, come from nowhere? I would like to kill it because it occupies a (false) letter of disc that I can not manage it to an other drive. What can i do? Or where is it in the base of registers? To Kill him.

I have already tried many thing, in vain.

Under WinXPpro sp2 I have two drives R/W--CD*DVD and I sees it the third in my Explorer
I also have two hard drives SATA (partitionned from c: to K:in the one and from O: to R: for the other one) if I boot on the other one, this CD do not exist, under Debian and KDE either.. It exists only under Windows Explorer XPp of the disc 1
It does not exist in Diskmanager ( diskmgmt.msc ), it does not exist in the properties, if I click above, he asks me for a CD, I may put it in the one or other drives, the message stays.

But... it exist in "Accessories--Information tools--InformationSystem" without name or type of manufacturer... Anonymous ???

I unsettled Acronis trueimage and Nero7 with the Nero cleaning tools ... The CD Fantome is always there.
Obviously my disc C: contains many thing, I don't project to reformat it.

I have already crossed many Forums ... but any ideas will be welcome...

Many thanks before.. And sorry to my English; I'm better in French!

Hi and welcome Jeannets

Does the false CD drive appear in Device Manger (devmgmt.msc)? If so, you may be able to uninstall it or at least disable it in there.

do you have anything installed such as Daemon tools?

look in your add/remove programs to see if a program like this is installed
and of course uninstall it

Thanks to your reply,

I foud my problem... This Bl-dy CD was Virual disk produce By "UltraISO" software

It doesn't appear in Device manager... But Only in Informations tool system... Or SIW... and also, impossible to change his letter, you can change to every device but not for this one.

It was not easy to find who is a source? Because its possible to devine "That is a virtual disc or CD" But nothing more tell you where/who it is linked.... Who is a father?? That is a question.

OK... Now it's finish... Thanks to your coopération to put me on the road.

Ultra Iso is a software prog , see the link . Try the SEARCH tool in windows and put in Ultra Iso and it should help you to find where the files for this program are located .
