How to kill a print job on HP 6l Laserprinter?

Since I have XP instead of W98 I have a problem with terminating printing if
the print job is past the queue and in the printer memory. The W98 HP
software enabled the emptying of this memory so any printing data sent to
the printer could be get rid off. The HP XP printing software does not
contain this option. Current printers have a button to do this unlike the
HP6L. I have only two options to get rid of these data: restart my computer,
or pull the power on the printer and wait some 5-10 min. However, there must
be a timeout setting in the Registry that could be tweaked. The only printer
timeout setting that I could find however, is the one in the printer
program, that only sets the time after which a warning of failed printing is
given. Where in the Registry can I set the timer for the print job in the
printer to be killed?

I doubt there is one for a printer of this age. The drivers were pretty basic
and the driver is where any print cancel (in the printer) would reside. Someone
else may be more knowledgeable.
I am surprised you have to pull the power for so long, the RAM should be reset
almost immediately, I would expect 10 seconds or so to be long enough for the
voltages in the printer to decay enough to reset the RAM.

On a HP 6L if you hold the front button in for about 5 seconds the printer
will do a reset and let you know by sequencing the 3 lights. Release the
button and the print buffer should be clear. If the computer printer
output is a serial line (like from a Unix system or DigiBoard) be sure to
reset the serial to parallel converter first because they normally have
some buffer memory as well.

Actually, my HP5 (older than the 6) has a cancel button to do this. I
think it is a model difference, not an age issue.

One of my beefs with HP is that they never update the "extra" software
for their printers. They write drivers for a couple years but the
other stuff is never updated. A new OS can come out a month after you
buy a printer and they still won't write new SW for it. The good news
is that the HP B&W laser printers run forever -so if you don't mind
losing the fancy software with an OS change, they still rule.

It may be that the computer sort of 'revives' the print job as soon as it
notices the printer powered up again. But it's of academic interest to me
now Bill Brown indicated the solution: Use the front button as a reset

Thanks Bill! I have to admit that upon rereading the Manual, it was in
there.

Well, as Bill indicated, the front printing button does double as a cancel
button - just as the User's Manual describes but I had overlooked it.
