How to keep shared folder alive in network?

Hi all,
I've got 3 xp pc's connected via a router.
One of the PC's is sharing a folder to the other 2.
For some reason, the 2nd pc keeps losing it's connection to the shared
folder after rebooting.
If I check windows explorer, I'll see the mapped drive, but it will have a
red x through it. To activate, I have to click on the drive.
This is such a nuisance.
The first machine doesn't have the problem.

I've disconnected/re-added the drives, but still no good.

Any ideas?

Tia!

Note: This problem 'may' have developed after I changed the computer name
on the PC with the problem.

hi
it seems as though you know alittle more than i do about networking

i was woundering if you could help me understand what im doing
im trying to print using remote access

if u mean u are trying to setup and access a shared printer.
Do as follows:

- on pc connected directly to printer. Go to dos and type in: hostname -
hit enter. Take down value. Ex: mypc
- on pc connected directly to printer, right click on printer and select
sharing. Share as - enter printer name. Ex: printer
- on networked pc, add a network printer. Using the values above, here is
the path: \\mypc\printer
- repeat for other networked machines

Note: The printer will only work if the host pc is on.
