I have a W2k AS that I recently set up.
We run a mixed (*nix, Windows) network, our DNS server is Linux. We do not
run any
domains (except the one needed for our SQL Server Cluster and only the
Cluster nodes and DC
belong to it). We have a workgroup that all the windows machines are set to
join when we install a new machine.
I am able to connect to everything just fine - email server, web server,
etc. I can even add shared printers, but only because I know their names.
I can see the workgroup in the network neighborhood, but when I try to
expand it and join it I'm told the network name doesn't exist.
This is wonderfully absurd since the darn thing displays the workgroup it
must know the name.
Is this a bug or what? Does anyone know how to force this server into the
workgroup? I'm tired of retyping the workgroup name into the settings box
and rebooting the system to try and get the values to take.
Much thanks in advance for this annoying little problem.
