I am trying to install windows 2000 on my pc which is
running on windows XP. I just want to wipe out the whole
windows XP to replace it with windows 2000. However, my
pc can not boot on the windows 2000 CD. It always boots
from hard drive with windows XP.

PLease advise.

THanks.

Check the boot order setting in cmos setup. To do a clean install, either
boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup disks. The set of four install
disks can be created from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk
directory on the CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe
(from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

You need to find out what your key combination is to enter bios and change
the device boot sequence so your CD-Rom has the opportunity to boot before
HD does. During POST, that key sequence to enter CMOS setup should be
displayed. If it goes by too fast, Pause with keyboard, Esc to release.

Also, keep in mind that even when the system is configured to boot from CD,
and there is a bootable CD in bay, you have a short time window in which to
press the spacebar to activate the boot from CD option.

Glad to hear it. Thanks for the feedback.
