I am running XP (NTFS) and have installed two S-ATA drives along with 4
P-ATA devices. I am booting from a P-ATA HD, not from the new serial drives.
I am not trying to set them up as a RAID, just need the extra storage.
The BIOS sees the new S-ATA drives.
When I boot into XP, the drives are seen in the Device Manager.
However, when I open My Computer, the new drives are not seen.
Do I need to format the new drives? If so, how do I do that in XP (NTFS)? I
have always used FAT and am new to NTFS.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Tx,

Benefits of NTFS:
Much more resilient,
No more disc corruptions if there is a crash or power fail.
Support Security / file permissions / quotas etc.
100% native to XP - the desired disc format

Pitfalls:
- v. tiny drop in performance (if you can notice at all)
- slight loss of space when converting
- discs inaccessible from Win9x if dual booting.

NTFS is Strongly recommended.

See Convert.exe in Help

EG in a command window:

convert c: /fs:ntfs
