How to install new mouse over old

I have Logitech optical mouse which does not work. It is frozen. It's also
possible this mouse has not been installed properly, because I cannot find
it in Add/Remove programs.

I'd bought an intellimouse called optical blue mouse, which I'd like to
install instead.

Do I have to uninstall the old mouse first, or would it be ok to connect the
new mouse and let WinXPpro search and install?

When would it be appropriate to use the mouse software that came with it?

Reinstall the logitech software. Reboot. Then uninstall. Reboot. Shut down
computer. Connect new mouse. Start computer and install new software.
