RemoteAssistance gives remote access for help and support to the locally
logged in console user. However the process must be initiated locally by
issuing an ivitation.
Obviously the mechanisms for obtaining remote access to the local console
with *simultanous* view and control are in place. But using the "invitation
only" method requires local interaction and is also valid only for a fixed
amout of time.

How can this be overidden ?
I.e how to gain access for remote managment *with* simultaneous view and
control of the local console session ?

In a domain or trusted domain environment you can use the Remote Assistance "Offer" functionality.
Note, however, the Novice still has to give you, the Expert, permission to both view and control
their desktop. Go to "Start -> Help and Support" and search on "offer remote assistance" for more
information and/or look at these KB articles for help with that...

If your in a workgroup environment, ie. *NOT* in a domain or trusted domain environment, then look
at this page for help...

In both cases (domain or work group environments), you (the Expert) and the Novice must be running
either XP Pro or XP Home.

FWIW, I have, at times, in a domain environment, for my own amusement,
combined RD and RA in sequence to initiate an RA request from an unattended
machine. I believe you can go through the whole sequence. (This takes two
XP Pro machines, of course.)
