How to increase environment variable size?

Hi!

I know, it is possible. I have 2 computers - desktop & notebook, both under
XP+SP2. On the desk the max variable size is 2K, on note - 1K. On the desk
this size was also 1K after XP installation, but it was increased during
installation of some software, I presume it was the Platform SDK. 1K is
insuffisient for me, so I loose the user part of 'PATH' variable and this is
a problem for me. How to increase the maximum env.variable size without
trying to inslall any soft?
