how to import information line by line

Is the text in a text placeholder? Are you using 2003? If so, select the
placeholder, choose Slide Show>Custom Animation. Choose Add Effect>Entrance,
and choose an effect. Then choose the effect listed in the Custom Animation
pane, and choose Effect Options. Click the Text Animation tab and choose by
1st level paragraphs, or whatever you want. That's the default, so you
usually get line-by-line animation automatically.

I use PPT2003, so I can only speak relative to that version:

Select the text box and apply Custom Animation (Slide Show menu item
or Right-click menu),
click Add Effect in the control panel and select Entrance and its
style,
click the item in the dialog window and pull down its menu,
Select Effect Options and its Text Animation tab
Pull down the Group text: menu and select the desired level for the
text. Note that paragraph levels are defined by the selected Bullet
and Numbering indentations. If no bulleting is applied, outline
indention can be applied, instead.
