How to identify a specific thread

What's the best way to identify a specific thread in this, or in another
microsoft.com web based newsgroup, so that one can quickly and accurately
find the thread? Something like a url. The "address" bar in IE sometimes
includes a mid= value that is a long string of hex characters, but this does
not seem to change as I navigate from one message to another?

Why would I want to know this? Suppose I want someone else to look at a
particular thread without having to SEARCH or browse for it? I'd like to send
that person a unique identifier to locate the exact thread of interest.

TIA,

Phil

According to your headers, the message ID for your post is:

(e-mail address removed)

Go to this page for Google's Advanced Search feature for newsgroups:

http://groups.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en&q=&hl=en&

Enter the Message ID in the "Lookup the message with message ID" box and
hit the "Lookup Message" button and you will see:

http://groups.google.com/groups/[email protected]&hl=en

Is this what you had in mind?

Or for people who can't stand Web interfaces for Usenet (that would be
most of the regulars here!), the following link should work:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/[email protected]

I like the latter. Just open the view message source and prefix the
news://.... stuff. Sounds simple to me.
