How to I set all outgoing messages to request read receipts? I can do it one
message at a time, but its tedious. Isn't there a defalut setting? Steve

Depending upon your version of Outlook, look here (directions are approximate
since you may use a different version than I):

Tools > Options > Preferences > E-mail Options > Tracking Options

Check the box that requests a Read Receipt and click OK until you have
closed out of Options.

I don't know what version of Outlook you're using so these steps are
approximate:

Tools > Options > E-mail Options > Tracking Options

Check the box that requests a Read Receipt and then click OK until you have
exited Options.

Note that many mail servers will not deliver Read Receipts so this may not
work for every email. If you check the archives here, you'll see how many
people ask for help with read receipts that won't send.

Yes, there is a default setting but why do you care to add a header to
your outbound messages to request getting back read receipt e-mails
when your recipient have that option disabled or set to prompt them
(and they'll just say No to sending the read receipt e-mail)? Unless
you are sending e-mails internally within your own company that has an
e-mail policy that demands that all employees configure their e-mail
client to automatically send a read receipt whenever they are
requested for one, it is futile to ask anyone else to send you back a
read receipt. What, you've never heard of spam before? You really
want to send back a read receipt to authenticate to the spammer that
they reached your valid e-mail address so they can put you on the top
of their victim list and spam you even more?

Regardless of how Microsoft configures the default settings in their
e-mail clients, or however other e-mail program authors setup their
e-mail software on installation, every user I've dealt with
immediately configures their e-mail client to NOT return any read
receipt e-mails.
