How to hook up two DVD burners and two hard drives

Thus far, I have one IDE drive, and one DVD burner. Each is attached to an
IDE port. Next, I am going to add a second DVD burner, and later on, a
second hard drive. Question: should I slave the 2nd DVD to the existing hard
drive, or the existing DVD drive?

Normally doesnt matter much and its generally easier to have
both the DVD drives on the one ribbon cable and both the hard
drives on the other, just because the hard drives are usually
in the same drive stack and the DVD drives in the other, and
there often isnt a lot of ribbon cable between the drive connectors.

If you plan to burn simultaneously on both DVD burners
you might possibly have a problem with that config if its
a rather puny old PC, but likely you arent planning that
and just plan to use one or the other for different formats.

I am unlikely to burn on both DVD's at the same time, but I will probably do
some copying. I have had an older DVD-R drive for a while, and just
purchased an LG GSA-4040B multiformat drive. I also have a SCSI drive but
that is not a factor since it is on its own U/160 controller. Based upon
your advice, I may as well wire my drives more for convenience than for any
real technological consideration. That's fine with me.
