I would like to be able to have my webpages open without having the .htm
added.
Is this possible ?
And how would I go about doing this.

Looking forward to your replies.

Could you be a little more specific as to
what you're trying to accomplish.
The file extension is what tells the computer
what application to open a file with.
Examples:
pdf=Adobe
exe=rundll32 ( in windows 9X and ME )
htm= Internet Explorer
asp = Internet Explorer
bmp= paint or Internet Explorer in "no-home mode"
( also windows explorer in "no-home mode" for the desktop )

etc, etc

Not possible!

Now what you are seeing, is the following:

When you click on the above link, you actual open:
http://www.ycoln-resources.com/default.asp

http://www.ycoln-resources.com/resources/
When you click on the above link, you actually open:
http://www.ycoln-resources.com/resources/index.htm

You actually just create a link to a folder, but the folder must have a
default document (home page) name same as your actual home page in the
folder.

Create a folder directions.

Put the appropriate default page in the folder as required by your host.
index.htm, index.html, default.htm, default.html, etc.

Then, make the link to www.amadeus.net/directions
and the default file will automatically open it.

| So to confirm
| I have a webpage on my website www.amadeus.net.nz
| when I recomend a person to visit a page www.amadeus.net.nz/directions
| ithey wont find it ...however I know if I put the .htm on the end it
works.
| www.amadeus.net.nz/directions.htm
| My question is...is there a way so I dont have to have the .htm on the end
| so that its easier for people to remember or make mistakes ?
| So as your example below show..it only works on the home page or index
| page.?

directions must be a folder and in this folder you must have a default page
(home page) name as required by your web host, such as, default.htm,
default.html, index.htm or index.html

So after you create a folder called directions, rename directions.htm to
index.htm within this folder.

I agree and disagree...
Your replies are correct assuming that thedesired action is to open a folder
and not show the filename.
But, I understand the question to be one that wants the file to be called by
name without an extension.
This can be done!
Any HTML document can be called by name and does not have to have an
extension.

Go to www.databits.ca/html for an example. When this page opens note the
address line in your browser. there is no extension and both example
documents are in the root of the website not a sub folder.

Ok, how did you accomplish this, what configuration did you change on the
server?
What server are you running, and do you have admin. control over this
server?
