How to grant volume shadow copy permission ?

Hello,

We have a Windows 2003 domain with Windows XP clients. We would like the
normal users to be able to run a backup program which uses the volume
shadow copy feature of Windows XP.

How can we grant the normal user account to create VSS snapshots ?

I think you may be a bit confused here. XP has no VS - that's a Windows
server thing. The server where volume shadow copy is enabled can be set up
to do snapshots twice a day (I wouldn't recommend more).

Since you're on a domain, your users shouldn't have anything stored on their
workstations anyway - all data should be on the server. Workstation backups
should not be needed.

Hi,

I'm refferring to the ability of an application to temporarily create a
snapshot of the volume while the backup process takes place, which I
think is reffered as a "non persistent" snapshot. It is present since
Windows XP and the NTBackup application has a checkbox to enable it.

News to me. I'd always known that the *client* can run on WinXP, but VSS
proper for W2003:

Now, that being said, your link refers to SDK stuff which isn't a native
part of XP and which I've never seen, so I can't speak to that.

Not sure how to help you; as mentioned previously, what you're doing really
shouldn't be
necessary in a well-organized network, as there should be nothing of any
importance on your workstations. Sorry I can't help further.
