everybody talks of going to previous slide while doing the presentation; my
question is how to go go back to previous slide while making the slides

Have you tried pressing the PageUp key on your keyboard?

That will go back to your previous slide while editing a presentation.

Just use the scroll bar in the normal (edit) view to scroll backwards. Or
use Page Up. Or click the appropriate slide in the slide thumbnail pane on
the left of the normal (edit) view.

You have a couple of options. You can go to View and select "Normal." This
will show you all your slides in a window on the left. That way you can just
click on the slide you're trying to go to.

Or you can use the scroller on the right side of your powerpoint window.
Up = previous slide. Down = next slide.
