This is elementary question I just don't have the answer to. If someone
could please enlighten me on how to get to the desktop without having to
close all the open windows on the screen.

Best Regards,
EM

Create a text file in Notepad as follows:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the Quick launch bar.
Or just click on this link:

Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch (Line 61)

Also note that you can do this with a keyboard shortcut: the combination of
the Windows key + D or the Windows key + M.

Press the Windows key and D at the same time.

If you don't have a Windows key on your keyboard, I don't know of a
way to do this.

I have a Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch portion of the Task Bar.

Use the Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch Toolbar. If you have no Quick Launch Toolbar showing you can turn it on. Right click a vacant spot on the bottom taskbar, slide the mouse pointer up to Toolbars and then click on Quick Launch. One of the icon selection it places on the bottom taskbar is 'Show Desktop'. Once the Quick Launch Toolbar is showing click on the >> symbols and select 'Show Desktop".

Thanks for all the submissions. All your recommendations worked. Thanks
again for the enlightenment.

EM

BTW, does Show Desktop.scf have a space in it?

Yes, but it actually doesn't matter. It's just a name for the file, and any
name will work, as long as the extersion is .scf

1) Click the "Show Desktop" item on the Quick-launch menu; or
2) Minimise (don't close) the windows (one at a time); or
3) Right click in a clear space of the task bar and select "Show Desktop".
