Is there a way to get the antivirus to resume scanning only when there
is no user activity? (When other computationally heavy processes are
running, yes; but when there user activity such as via keyboard or
mouse, preferably not).

Fred,

In the Corporate version you have throttling options where you can specify
what processor usage is used. Not possible on the home versions as far as I
am aware

The home version of Symantec, & McAfee for that matter is a bit of a resorce
hog, I use both F-Secure & AVG free version, on different sys, and they have
never caused any resource problems

Thank you, Newbie. This is not under the control of the common user
in a corporate environment, so I shall rais this possibility with the
IT people.

P.S. Strange, but I did a grouple search for (e-mail address removed)
and sorted by date (in order to quickly locate this thread), but it
didn't show up. But it does show up when I use Grouple to go directly
to the newsgroup. It might be the case that this posting might "prod"
the way it exists in Grouple so as to eliminate this anomalous
behaviour.

Unfortunately, the choice of an AV is not my decision....

Then you will need to get the assistance of the person who makes the
configuration decisions for your PC.
